No real weapons are allowed at the Expo
Simulated or costume weapons are allowed as a part of your costume, subject to prior approval by security and compliance with the following:
All costume weapons must be inspected at the Weapons Check area
All costume weapons must conform to state and federal law.
Projectile costume weapons must be rendered inoperable.
Functional (real) arrows must have their tips removed and be bundled and zip tied to a quiver
After each person's costume weapon has been checked, it will be tagged.
If you do not want to have your costume weapons inspected or tagged, or if you are not willing to comply with these policies, please do not bring your costume weapons to the Expo.
This is an open genre costume contest, meaning there are no restrictions regarding the
source material of a competing cosplay.
All entries are strongly encouraged to bring reference material for their costume(s). While
we will not turn away entries that do not bring reference material, it is very helpful! Not all
judges know all characters, so reference material is in everyone’s best interest
Cosplays being entered in the Adult, Youth, of Group categories can be store‐bought,
commissioned, or made by the contestant.
Cosplays being entered in the Advanced category must meet ALL of the following:
o Costumes need to be made or modified by the entrant.
Modifications will be assessed by our judges and must be at least 30%
modified from original piece.
o Commissioned costumes may only be entered if the creator of the costume is in
o Store‐bought costumes are not allowed.
o The following items are allowed to be store‐bought: wigs, belts, shoes, jewelry,
accessories and props. Other items may be allowed at the judges’ discretion.
One costume entry per person.
The judges reserve the right to move a contestant from the Adult, Youth or Group categories
into the Advanced category at their discretion.
A parent or guardian must accompany all contestants in the Youth category (age 14 or under) for
both the pre‐judging and the Cosplay Contest presentation.
Contestants may not enter a costume that has won an award from any other convention. If you have a question about exceptions to this rule, please contact us.
All costumes must abide by the rules of the Huntsville Comic and Pop Expo Cosplay Policy
and Weapons Policy. If a policy violation is discovered by any of the convention staff or
judges panel, that entry will be disqualified.
All contestants MUST fill out and submit an entry form. A valid convention badge will be
Special stage requests will be considered but cannot be guaranteed. Requests should be
submitted in writing along with the entry form.
No entries will be accepted once pre‐judging has begun (noon).
Contestants who do not appear in full costume at pre‐judging will be disqualified from the
A winner will be selected for each category (Adult, Child and Group), along with a Judge’s
Choice award for each judge.
All decisions made by the judges are final. All prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the contest.
The following prizes will be awarded to the respective categories:
Any prize not claimed by the conclusion of Huntsville Comic and Pop Expo (Sunday, March 19 at 5:00pm) will be forfeited.
Any item or activity that presents the possibility of damage to the entrants, their costumes, the audience, or the facility is prohibited.
Any participant may be disqualified from the contest by Huntsville Comic and Pop Expo Staff for failure to observe any of these rules.
